PROJECT: LBS-London Experience


This term I have spent lots of times in Museum, Natural History Museum, Science Museum, British Museum, etc.
I found it's really a nice way to learn or find information, every time I go there I can see new stuff.

These are the drawings from an exhibition in Science Museum, about the clock. 
At the beginning, I just thought those clocks are beautiful and drew them down.

Those are 3 free drawings about the museum as well, nothing special meaning, but just free imagination about the stuff in Science Museum.

London Business School Competition 
Then, I intended to use this theme for the LBS project, it's a project about London experience for London Business School. After having tutorials, I needed to think about how to connect my idea about the museum with LBS, like finance. I find there is an exhibition about currency in British Museum. So, I made some drawings.





I began to draw for the final.
These are the museums, I coloured them in photoshop.



The museums part has already done. My idea was putting the museum and the currency together, it's like 'selling' London. So I was going to do the currency version.


After tutorials, I had made some changes, cause it has too many things, I classified these museums in the order of colours, and made this. 



The another idea I've been thinking was about was 'time', depending on the drawings I did before about the clocks. I thought time was also an be a theme for London experience. Cause time related to everything, and it has an obvious connection with the London Experience or Life.

After another tutorial listened to some suggestion of tutors. I made some other versions.


Final outcome-Use these museum images to make the Banknote of museums. Really glad that I won 180 pounds of this image~

"Banknote of Museums"
The main idea here is about connecting museums, as one of the cultural symbols of London, to financial and economic districts. This image uses the palette and symbolism of banknotes and the drawings of several famous London museums. The biggest building is a financial building, surrounded by museums.

PROJECT: 2060

The last project of the second year is '2060' We are asked to think about what the people in 2060 want us to do now to influence the future as designers. This is the first time our 3 majors worked together. The whole 8 weeks project include many workshops, events related. Basically about society, food, catastrophe. At the very beginning, I just simply draw something about 'future', really random, abstract drawing without too much thinking, the architecture, people...etc. 3 main workshops 'community'—equal Our group idea is about 'equal', people become more equal in 2060, no matter what your skin colour, nationality, race, age...etc The plan for the event is: Let our groupmate wear the 'white suit', provide materials of pens, pencils, crayons, oil paintings, coloured paper fabric, balloons. ROTATION:Reportage

So, it's our rotation project now. The first on of our group is "people and places" with jay. The primer task is to find a place you are familiar with or you want to know in London, and stay there try to feel that atmosphere, to see the people. Do the drawing, writing, 30 pages about everything of the place. EAT TOKYO I picked the 'Eat Tokyo' first (the one in Holborn). It's a Japanese restaurant. My friend and I go there after each assessment, so it's like a little celebration to us. You can tell how much I love this place. I went there again for the primer task and tried to record everything about it. The people, the food, or the environment. However, after the briefing on Friday, I had changed my mind, as our aim is drawing an illustration to introduce the places in London to next year's students. DEGREE SHOW: The Niveous Deer

I began to draw the final drawings, I plan to do 30, and a book cover. First are the drafts, and then I drew the line works. I have 5 chapters of the story, for each chapter has 6 images. I tried my best to tell the story by images because I want the audience can understand the story through my drawings. Finally, I finished the 30 images, almost 2 days for 1 drawing, used digital drawing, photoshop, and next step I need to add script inside the book and think about the layout. EXTERNAL PROJECT: The story in the forest

I always want to draw for children book, so in this project, I chose the theme of children illustration book. My plan is a children story book. PROJECT: Fiction

The first project we did in our 2nd year, was 'Fiction', the 'core' work has already begun during the summer, each of us chose a book from the list the tutor provided, my choice was 'Aesop Fables', cause I always interested in the fable stories. So,  I started to draw related to the theme.  Characters： I've drawn many characters from the whole book.(animals) Landscapes： The scene part, I drew the lines first, then scanned these to the computer, coloured them in Photoshop, finally printed them out on tracing paper. I had a trip in Shanxi(a province in China)during the summer, I did some observation drawing on the trip, these  might be useful for the project. Except for the flowers, other pros, like water, stones, fire, etc.     I drew them in a quite random way. I did the watercolour drawing first, then had lines on it. ROTATION:Editorial

The last project of rotation is "Editorial" with Luke. It's our first time to draw depend on an article. We had  2 articles to do. The first article is about Squatters.   1.Squatters, homeless people and empty buildings---use labyrinth(the road in the drawing) to show how hard if the homeless people want to find a place to live in. 2.Squatters, homeless people and empty buildings---the people in the drawing is the reflection, there is something(maybe a window or glass) obstruct the people, so they cannot touch the buildings.I even try to draw each building on a people's reflection, so it's matching. The second article is about surfing.  I did some lines drawing first. These images are all about waves, how exciting the sport is, and good waves make a good contest, crummy waves make contest unwatchable.  I try to include 2 opposite scenes in one drawing. PROJECT: Competition

This is the last project of the first term, the competition one. We are asked to join a competition from the list. After struggling for time, I picked opera one. The briefing is: The Royal Opera House and AKA, the international entertainment marketing agency, are challenging you to create a campaign that will encourage culturally engaged young people aged 20-30 to experience opera for the first time. You need to show how your idea will work as an advertising campaign – across digital, print, out of home and social media advertising . Actually, I haven't think about this project carefully at the beginning, I picked this only because I'm always interested in things related to music, Opera is one of this type. And I really want to draw something depend on this theme, even though I found the final is quite complicated to complete for an Illustrator (it's kind of like graphic design's field).
